Steven Thomas is a young composer and violist from Burlington, North Carolina. He attended the Governor's School of North Carolina West in 2010, where he studied contemporary instrumental music. There he developed a passion for a wide array of modern musical styles, and was inspired to devote his interest in composition to creating music that he now hopes will widen the audience of new music. Steven writes in a variety of different musical styles that he feels has something to offer to everyone. Included among these styles are chamber music, music for large ensembles and chorus, minimalist and atonal music, as well as traditionally inspired music. Some of his biggest inspirations include John Cage and Steve Reich. Steven is currently a full time student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he is studying physics and computer science, and completing his supplemental education by studying composition.
